· Collecting Vintage Quadraphonic Vinyl Records. One specialty area of Vinyl record collecting is quadraphonic. This basically means records that have a special sound mix of surround sound. Many times these records can sell for 3 or 4 times the amount of the regular stereo issue as well. Here’s a list of vinyl records that are quadraphonic.
This quadradisc LP is a Discrete recording which can be played with every modern light-weight stereo-tonearm achieving the full effect of stereo. But the CD-4 effect is only achieved if this record is played on a four-channel system with four loudspeakers and a demodulator.
RCA and JVC together developed the CD-4/Quadradisc format for vinyl. Having the four channels fully discrete made 'CD-4' the best Quad format, but one needed more specialized gear to use it, and it wasn't very compatible with stereo equipment.
