Keep Still - Belong - Common Era (CD, Album)

It doesn’t take long for you to realize that Belong’s latest full-length ‘Common Era’ is a shocking new direction for the New Orleans duo. ‘October Language’ was an expertly realized slice of fuzzy ambience, but within seconds of album-opener ‘Come See’ we are treated to drums, guitars and vocals; all the trappings of ‘real music’. A simple exercise in pop, however, this is.

 · This is Belong's least mysterious album by far, with a greater emphasis on vocals, perceptibly changing chords, and rock rhythms. They used to sound like Tim Hecker having a dream about JAMC, My.

 · Belong have several releases under their belt, Common Era being the most structured of their offerings, however, that is not to suggest this collection of songs is going to be enjoyed by us all. For example, while driving through Detroit several autumns ago during a rainstorm with three friends, one of my companions decided to play this album.5/5(4).

  1.  · In their newest album “Common Era” one can find interlaced shoe-gaze, drone and ambient tunes. The main “expectation knife” -- “A Walk” -- is hiding among other works. Stunning expression of vintage and strident sound, made with deep accords of synthesizers, leaves unforgettable impression of perfect harmony while diligent monotony is expressed with indistinct drums, drowned in /5().

  2. release, the first album in five years from the Experimental duo. Both the time invested, and the wait, have been well rewarded with this return. Common Era shows extraordinary progression from that first album of dense, scorched earth instrumentals, hints of a new direction having been revealed on the Colorless Record EP from /5(4).
