The Music Rhythm Training Exercise helps you internalize all major rhythmic patterns through reading practices. Being able to read rhythm notation and to internalize rhythmic patterns is essential for every composer, musician and even for electronic music producers and here is why.
· Feel free to download and use them. Most of the worksheets alternate between three lines of rhythm in one meter (usually 2/4) and three lines of rhythm in another meter (usually 3/4). In addition to performing these rhythms as solo lines, you can also divide the class into two or three groups, giving each group their own line of rhythm.
To begin using this method of simplifying rhythm, do this now: Look at any piece of music. Identify the smallest subdivision (eighth, sixteenth, whichever). Select any rhythm, and see how it divides into 4. Compare the selected rhythm with the list of 8 common rhythms. Wash, rinse, repeat.
