Time savings come from faster boss fights, avoidance of unnecessary bonuses, better HP management, and more optimized movement. James Pond 3: Operation Starfish is a platform game starring a super agile fish named James Pond, which has been Amiga 's somewhat preemptive answer to Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World games. The physics of this game allow for many interesting acrobatics, like running up the walls and ceilings at breakneck speed.
As such, these abilities are abused to the point where, in some parts, Pond bounces around as fast as Sonic does. Following the game's plot, the evil Dr. Maybe attempts to take over the dairy industry, for which he constructs a giant stronghold on the Moon. Because, as you probably know, its surface is made of cheese.
The overworld map spans over levels, but most of them are optional. This run is the author's third submission of this game. The Cheese Mines and Stiltonium Machines were destroyed in order to reach the good ending. According to the author, the bad ending is about as bad as losing the game, as you get a non-standard game over instead of the ending. He improves the previous run by Jewel Master chronicles the untold story of, well, the Jewel Master and his battle against evil.
He has at his disposal magical rings that can be worn in different combinations and grant him extra powers. The encodes provide commentary by the author as soft subtitles. Junction is a puzzle game developed by Micronet where the objective is slide track tiles on the board and to clear bridged tracks located on the boarder of the puzzle. It is a side-scrolling action video game, with platform gameplay elements. The game is playable as either paleontologist Dr.
Alan Grant, or a Velociraptor. We also have a movie that uses Raptor. In this game, you can choose between Grant and the raptor, each with his own set of levels. Grant's levels are like Prince of Persia except with dinosaurs and better weapons.
The raptor's levels go by much faster. The collision detection is quite buggy, and the author takes advantage of this. It is the sequel to Sega's previous Jurassic Park video gamebased on the film of the same name and also released for the Genesis. Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition is a revamped version of its predecessor, featuring similar gameplay with several changes, and a new story that continues from where the previous game ended.
This game features fascinating graphics, and the glitches Archanfel abuses are just as stunning! Watch him zip and clip through the entire game under 3 minutes. Hint: Hover the mouse over the screenshot. Only the big punch is used. The gang is very polite and allows you to beat them up one at a time.
In this fast-paced platformer, our hero, Casey, is faced with a virtual reality game which seems to make its participants disappear; he must make use of the ability to change into a variety of different forms with diverse abilities to get to the bottom of the mystery. This run aims for the fastest possible path through the game in real time, and so manipulates the score counter in a few instances. This is an improvement of a minute and a half to the previously published five year old run in this category.
Kid Chameleon is the story of a kid trapped in an arcade machine, where he has to traverse many different kinds of levels from different "games" and can transform into many types of characters. It is rather convoluted, with the ability to take many paths to the last level. Instead of taking the fastest path, this movie takes the longest path possible without backtracking, but does so as quickly as possible.
At TASVideos, even 10 second long movies are improved, and game characters become so powerful they don't even have to move in order to complete the game. Together they've managed to shorten the solution by 14 frames with the help of a similarly-designed bot for Gens. Note that, while input length is 10 seconds long, less than 0. This is a hacked version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The title character is replaced by his rival, Knuckles.
The levels remain unchanged. There is more than just an appearance change to this game. Knuckles' abilities remain intact. If you haven't seen Sonic the Hedgehog completed before, you may wish to do so before seeing what a character with a spindash and gliding can accomplish. Contrary to the previously published moviethis TAS forgoes zips, as it shows off the hack better. Note: An IPS patch for the hack can be downloaded here. It must be patched to REV As the name suggests, what you get is simply Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Knuckles the Echidna as the playable character.
The levels remain mostly unchanged, save for the addition of a few monitors that can only be reached as Knuckles, whose abilities from Sonic and Knuckles gliding, climbing walls, and jumping a little lower than Sonic remain intact.
In this run, you'll see the zones of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 colloquially referred to as West Side Island in the Japanese manual like you've never seen them before, Black Cat - Max Steiner - Fighter Squadron (CD) Knuckles uses every trick in the book to collect over five thousand rings, with only 11 throughout the game eluding his grasp. For the time being, anyway We also have runs with Sonic and Tails and Knuckles in this game. If you haven't seen Sonic the Hedgehog 2 completed before, you may wish to do so before seeing what a character with a spindash and gliding can accomplish.
The run is an improvement of 5. The author's comments contain a whole bunch of details. We also have runs with Sonic and Tails and where Knuckles is going for the max rings challenge. Each second link or set of encodes uses a camhack, which forces the camera to focus on Knuckles while keeping the sprites on the foreground layer. You play as an adventure-seeking treasure hunter named Nigel, an elf who's remarkably young-looking for his age 88! After completing his latest bounty, he runs into a wood nymph named Friday who's being pursued over her alleged knowledge of the whereabouts of King Nole's treasures.
After helping her evade her pursuers, the two team up as they set off for Mercator Island in search of the fabled fortune. Are King Nole's treasures truly close by? Are they ripe for the taking, or still jealously guarded to this day? He soon finds himself, however, in a sudden conflict between an elite detachment of the Rayguard Empire and a peculiar young woman whom they are attempting to abduct.
In desperation, her childhood friend Hein rushes toward Elwin and urgently pleads him to help fight off and thwart the Empire's plans. So much for rest Who is this young woman? Why is a major military power intent on capturing her? And what's this have to do with a legendary holy blade?
In ars's run, cunning strategy combines with heavy luck manipulation to produce a speedrun that completes all of the game's accessible stages 27 normal and 3 'hidden' in just under 2 hours. The movie file and the primary downloadable HQ encode have the author's commentary as subtitles. The game has overly cute design and the battles are probably a little different than you would expect. The story revolves around a girl who is on a quest to pass her final exam in a magic school.
A defining moment is one of the cutscenes, where a slime is encountered and suddenly defeated by a strange girl bursting through a brick wall.
Then, an equally strange armored knight drops in from the ceiling and the two of them proceed to ignore you and chase each other away. The fast completion time is achieved mostly by using a random-effect spell, which has a small chance of producing a devastating elephant stomp yeah, really.
Naturally, in a TAS, the "small chance" gets a new meaning. This colorful game is based on the manga of the same name and features what appears to be a magical baby navigating through some unusual and fairly friendly looking enemies.
Everything, particularly inanimate objects, has a face. The levels vary from suburbia to castles to clouds, and end with particularly unique bosses. The main character's ability to glide sets this apart from many other platformers.
The author uses this power frequently to both gain speed and to simply hover above helpless enemies. It is based off the manga and anime series Devil Hunter Yohko.
The Genesis remake of Marble Madness is not directly comparable to the original. In addition to having much worse audio quality, the rules on where and what the marble can go and do are relaxed, allowing for many shortcuts not possible on the NES.
This improvement by SprintGod is 10 seconds faster than adelikat 's previous version. See this run replayed on a real Genesis. A mad scientist employed by the sinister Col.
Brown has created sludge to turn people into sludge monsters! It has also imbued the football belonging to our hero, Marko, with magical powers, with which he hopes to stop the evil plot of the day. Sadly, here he doesn't seem to care about Black Cat - Max Steiner - Fighter Squadron (CD) football very much, instead preferring to sprint on his own power to the end of the various levels.
Marvel Land is a platform game released to arcades by Namco in and ported to the Genesis two years later. You are Talmit, a man trying to save the Marvel Land amusement park from the clutches of the evil King Mole. Although one could certainly crack a joke about the idea of a platformer based on McDonald's characters, the joke is quickly stifled by the fact that this game is made by Treasure, known for their entertaining platformers and shooters.
A nonsensical plot involving a treasure map and aliens on the moon is quickly discarded in favor of entertaining and hilarious platform antics. Along with the original games is the short game "Wily Tower", where special bosses exclusive to this game can be fought with your choice of any weapon from the first three games. Jc abuses zipping glitches similar to those in the NES game runs to beat the entire tower in barely over nine and a half minutes.
In this installment of the Turrican series, the evil force known as "The Machine" has once again come to bring destruction in order to take over the galaxy. Once again, Bren McGuire is the only one who can save the galaxy from evil!
Like most of the previous games in this series, the protagonist has limited rolling power and limited use of super bombs.
This forces the author to use some strategic choices to conquer these stages quickly, including occasionally dying to replenish bombs. An overhead shooter with a one man versus an army theme.
A lot of time was put into optimizing walking paths, vehicle use and M-bomb use. Details can be found in the author's comments. This is a strange platformer where the main character, Michael Jackson, has an obsession with doing weird movements and occasionally dances together with the enemies before beating them to oblivion.
For more details, please read the authors' comments. If you were looking for a run from the arcade version of this game, click here. In the game, the player controls Mickey Mouse, who must navigate through various side-scrolling levels, each designed and based from classical Mickey Mouse cartoons from to Archanfel improves emu's run of this game by about 11 seconds thanks to a new route in Mickey And The Beanstalk.
There are only minor changes in the rest of the run, so emu is still listed as a co-author. Midnight Resistance was a rather lackluster attempt at making a Contra-esque game, ported later to Sega Genesis.
Still, it manages to preserve some of the genre's core values, and therefore is well suited for a TAS. Selected quotes from the author: Story: an evil enemy kidnaps the hero's family. The hero is pleased, as this gives him a reason to wear a tight sleeveless shirt and blow up stuff with big guns. This run takes care of money problems by finding a nameless, glitched party member and taking all his stuff. Teleportation is used in some places it normally can't be by resting to Black Cat - Max Steiner - Fighter Squadron (CD) the forbidden flag.
Walking backwards is employed when it reduces screen draw time. Temple blessings are used rather than a cleric, and items are used instead of a sorcerer. This game uses the system of Mortal Kombat Mythologies in that it's a cross between fighting and side-scrolling. Monster World 4 is an excellent Japanese release only platformer for Genesis released late into its lifetime. There is no magic but a heavy focus on close range combat along with using a pet to assist you.
This game is a classic side scrolling 2D platformer, about an anthropomorphic Black Cat - Max Steiner - Fighter Squadron (CD) squirrel Mr. He is only one who can stop a dictatorship of yeti Mr. Blizzard and his henchmen who want establish eternal winter. Except for changing the clothing of the hero and deleting the intro and the names of the stages, everything seems to be the same.
Because Peacock the hero is not a very smart hero, he cannot walk and use his arms at the same time a common video game character disability. Thus he must jump to be able to use his arms.
If he is charging a bigger shot when he lands, he forgets to walk for a few frames, so you cannot charge up a shot too early. It's all very delicate. This is a 35 second improvement over the previous movie by highness. Much of the improvement comes from an interesting glitch in the last level. Viewer discretion advised. The plot is that Normy's hanging out with some beach babes when suddenly an evil alien ship beams them aboard! Normy recieves a note that he's the only one that can save them and so he uses some magic suntan lotion to travel through time to rescue them.
Jules improves their previous TAS by In this playaround, the author, Toothacheachieves the best score or time possible in each event. Outrun is a racing game where the player is presented with forks in the road. The left fork leads to an easier stage and the right fork leads to something more challenging.
The camera travels along with the car rather than just presenting a birds eye view. Its designer, Yu Suzuki, describes it as a driving game rather than a racing game. In this run weatherton uses a couple of tricks to speed things up. By quickly switching between high and low gear driving-off road is possible without slowing down. While using this trick the car stays a fixed distance from the road, making impossibly tight turns possible. The position, type and number of cars and the position of obstacles can be manipulated by horizontal position and the frame they load on.
Proper timing of the accelerator allows for a turbo start. And revving a few frames before that adds a little bit more. Phantasy Star IIreleased inintroduces us to the anti-utopian world of Mota, now dominated by the Mother Brain computer.
Rolf, a government agent, is assigned the task of finding out why Mother Brain is malfunctioning, and yet his role in the destiny of Algo is far, far greater than anyone could imagine. Anyone, save one lone Esper. As the genetic construct Nei, the soldier Rudo, and others join him, can he topple the tyranny of Mother Brain and free Algo from an unholy evil? Rolf and his friends, tired of all the violence they've seen, decide to take a pacifist route to save the Algol system with zero bloodshed.
This run improves the author's previous run by For more details, see the author's notes. For more details on the main ideas behind the glitches in this run, read the older run's submission notes. Phantasy Star III is often considered to be the black sheep of the series, but is still a unique RPG on its own, featuring 3 generations and multiple paths through the game.
However, this run breaks the plot halfway through by glitching past the second generation quickly. Like in other RPG runs, luck has been manipulated for many things. Although random encounters can't be completely avoided, no damage is ever taken except from bosses, and most of the leveling is done in a final rush. Read the author's comments for more details on luck manipulation and the path taken through the game.
It is the fourth and final game in the original Phantasy Star series, concluding the story of the Algol Star System. Phantasy Star IV kept many of the gameplay elements of the previous game, including turn-based battles, overhead exploration, and magic spells.
It received mixed reviews upon its release, but has been subject to positive critical retrospectives. In this movie, Jiseed exploits recently discovered complex glitches such as save warping, spawning a non-existent extra character, macro corruption, and others. Severe memory corruption allows to finish the game in record time by skipping several crucial parts of the plot.
See the author's notes and the discussion thread for more information on the glitches. In this final installment of the famous Phantasy Star series, the protagonist, while out on a routine assignment, uncovers evidence pointing to a sinister threat to the entire solar system.
One thing leads to another and he and the rest of his party eventually find themselves fighting the root of all evil. No reason to rush things though, right?
In addition to completing all sidequeststhe author also uncovers every single reference to Phantasy Star Universe. This run is Such a quest would normally take at least ten hours, but with copious amounts of luck manipulation, it can be reduced to just under an hour and a half.
The game follows the Pink Panther's adventures across numerous film sets in Hollywood, trying to find fame and fortune while eluding the tenacious Inspector Clouseau. There is also a SNES version of the run also created by wesen. As an astounding 1 minute 42 second improvement over the previous TAS, this movie pretty much chucks out everything done by the previous movie and proves that, in the end, the elbow is the deadliest weapon known to man.
Note that this TAS uses the Oct version of the game. It will not sync on the July version. Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a sequel to an old Atari game with a similar concept to its predecessor: Get through the jungle alive and fight something at the end.
This run by Dooty improves the previous movie by Pocket Monster is a relatively infamous bootleg game, based on the Pokemon franchise.
Despite its infamy, it's a relatively generic platformer. This run by zoboner beats the game in less then eight minutes. The author, dekutony, abuses several minor glitches throughout the run to beat the game in under four minutes. This version improves the previous Prince of Persia run by 42 seconds.
During the run, the author manages to pull off daring leaps of faith, enemy dodging and even manages to pass through a solid metal gate. Puggsy is the story of an alien who makes a pit stop on a planet creatively called The Planet, only to have his spacecraft stolen by the raccoon natives!
In order to get Puggsy's ride back, Sonikkustar abuses the impressive physics engine and the variety of puzzle-solving items dotted around the levels, thrashing the raccoons in record time!
From the author: The graphics, music, sounds, controls are all absolutely phenomenal with interesting characters, gorgeous trippy backgrounds, and tough-but-not-too-tough bosses and puzzles. I'm very confident in saying that it's one of the best games you've probably never heard of. This run uses glitches that allow moving screenfulls at a time through obstacles and walls.
This is a run of Pulseman that aims for fastest time without using the motion bug. This adds many minutes to the run but makes it easier to follow and allows the author to show off the game's rich variety of levels and optimization strategies.
Tool-assisted runs are more than just running to the end of a game as quickly as possible; precision also plays a huge factor. As proof, look no further than While the segments of input are very short, a great deal of work is needed to figure out exactly what the best shots are in order to complete the holes in the fastest possible time.
If you enjoyed watching this, also check out another mini-golf run with even zanier courses. Quackshot is an Indiana-Jones-inspired game that finds Donald Duck liberally belly-sliding and plunger-shooting his way to an ancient treasure.
It is one of the few non-Capcom Disney games. There is also an alternate YouTube stream featuring commentary by the author. The game has a side-scroll view, and a fantasy theme. It was also released as Jashin Draxos in Japan. The Genesis version of the game is significantly different from the other platforms that it was released on, with changes to the graphics, mechanics, and gameplay. Ristar is a colorful platformer with good music. In this TAS, the author uses a password to play only the bonus levels.
This run is slightly longer than the one it beats due to longer and more accurate loading times, but it's faster in actual gameplay. Ristar is a large, colorful game with good music. It also has water-themed levels that aren't slow and boring, which is a true rarity. The author of this TAS chose to get maximum height bonuses instead of using the end pole for a small, boring speed boost. As Bag of Magic Food so excellently put it, "Starface has stretchy arms and wastes time spinning on poles.
Details about the improvements can be found in the authors comments. The Genesis version of RoboCop 3 is a side-scrolling platform shooter. You get missions such as rescuing your colleagues who are being kept hostagewhich are divided into several smaller levels.
The levels usually consist of several platforms, and are heavily populated by enemies who shoot at you. You can gather special repair kits, which will be used to restore your health after you've completed a level. RoboCop 3 is more of a shooter than its predecessors, having more and tougher enemies. Compared to the NES version, there is no zonal system damage; there are different levels, weapons and enemies.
The author of this TAS blazes through this game on the hardest difficulty in record time. RoboCop versus The Terminator is based on a comic book that is a typical example of two popular but completely unrelated fiction universes merged into one. Such a process usually results in ruined timeline coherence for either, and this game is no exception.
As a result, we get a pretty wild mishmash of RoboCop's and Terminator's backstories in a silly plot accompanied by equally silly gameplay. This includes seemingly inescapable bullet sprays, leotard-clad baddies, exploding heads, hidden 1-ups conveniently placed in molten lava, and so on. The sheer frustration RoboCop experiences from all this madness can only be vented by banging his head on a rock!
You wish any of this was a joke, but it's actually all there. The Genesis version of this game is notable for the amount of gore and other PG goodies, as well as for the ability to abuse death and other things that make it most suitable for a TAS.
This game has a lot of bosses, to say the least. Because the author speeds through levels so quickly, the amount of time spent fighting bosses is actually greater than the amount of time completing the level in order to reach them.
This is a 7 minute 38 second improvement over the previous movie. Much of this improvement is simply due to defeating bosses more quickly.
The author has left detailed comments about these improvements. Rolo to the Rescue is a platformer for the Genesis, starring an agile elephant, Rolo. Gameplay involves freeing animals from cages. Switching to the saved animals allows for different movement modes, which adds some puzzle elements.
The overworld is assembled by getting pieces from clearing stages. By herself, Rolo can only take one hit, but the animals she frees will take a hit then leave the group. Humans on Earth have lost their righteous ways.
After seeing that this has happened, the Gods have decided to abandon the Earthlings and no longer protect them. Ashura, the King of an alien race hailing from the Evil World, decides that this is the perfect time to strike the vulnerable unprotected Earth.
It just so happens that one of the good gods, Hyprion, takes pity on the humans and decides to bestow his power to four of the strongest Earth warriors so they can go and defeat Ashura and his minions.
Ninjas, ninjas, everywhere! A lesser-known entry in the Shinobi series, the game still holds its own. As always, ninjas rescue their hostages with style, and celebrate victories against bosses with a suicidal plunge off the nearest skyscraper. Shadow of the Beast is a somewhat inferior port of the Amiga hit released in The North American release was additionally criticized for sloppy conversion that made the game run Obviously it was no problem for maTO, who plunged through the game with impressive health management in just under 12 minutes.
In this direct sequel to the original once again ported from the Amiga, in a much better fashion but with distorted soundthe hero's sister is kidnapped and he must pursue the same villain as the original to rescue her and settle the score. With some glitch abuse, a helping of taking damage, and very little difficulty, the author of this run accomplishes this in less than seven minutes just over half the time of the original game.
Shining Force is just under two hours of luck manipulation action. The random number generator is abused to the highest degree. This is a 4 minute 27 second improvement over the previous movie by the same author.
In this second game of the series, watch nearly three and a half hours of luck manipulation so intense that it took scripting and bot-work to perform most of it. Most of the bosses in the second half of the run die in one or two rounds. This Black Cat - Max Steiner - Fighter Squadron (CD) an improvement of 15 minutes and 13 seconds over the previous movie, due to a variety of improvements, and in spite of playing on "Super" difficulty, which is functionally the highest difficulty level.
If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out the first game in the series as well. Shining in the Darkness is the first in the Shining series, which includes Shining Force. Unlike the later games, it is a first person dungeon crawler. The author dissected the game with the help of Lua scripts to find optimal battles and avoid random encounters.
You control the ninja Musashi, who in this update has many new moves and abilities. He begins the game armed with 0 shurikens, but apparently someone felt the need to leave some conveniently in his way to use. This run is a See the authors' notes for a detailed overview. Skitchin' is a racing game released in by EA.
It is the spiritual successor to the Road Rash series. The goal of the game is to rollerblade to the finish line, grabbing cars to boost your speed the titular "skitching"performing tricks, and knocking over other racers with various weapons. In this tool-assisted speedrun, very few cars are skitched and the other racers are ignored. For more details, see the run's comments. Each second link or set of encodes uses a camhack, which forces the camera to focus on Amy while keeping the sprites on the foreground layer.
This run also avoids using a glitch called horizontal underflowwhich is explained in the author's comments. The downloadable encodes in the second set use a camhack, which attempts to always keep Sonic onscreen and puts HD sprites on top of the background to make the TAS look even better.
Interestingly, the authors of this run, Aglar and marzojr, utilized a disassembly of the game in order to squeeze the most out of every trick used. This run uses a disassembly of the game in order to use the most of every trick.
Every duplicate link leads to the camhacked version of the encode. This leads to some interesting routes to reach out-of-the-way rings as well as opportunities to show off some new glitches. See the floating island like never before as you tag along with Knuckles, and try to keep up as he patrols his territory while foraging for rings and revealing secrets that show why he is truly the sole guardian of the island.
Robotnik, this time on the Floating Island that is guarded by Knuckles the Echidna. The routing for this goal is more about efficiently moving between groups of rings than efficiently moving to the end of the stage, and is incredibly complex.
This run starts from a clear-game savestate with all of the Chaos Emeralds and Super Emeralds collected, so that collecting giant rings will award Sonic and Tails a ring bonus instead of taking them to a Blue Sphere bonus stage. We normally do not accept save-anchored movies; more details can be found in the authors' comments.
An atlas encode is also available, which shows the characters' positions on a zoomed-out level map, which might make it easier to follow the action. For those wishing to play back the emulator movie file, a Gensb savestate for this purpose is available here. Sonic's gone to plaid in the latest TAS by marzojr. It starts from a savestate to take advantage of Hyper Sonic from the beginning of the game. For more details, see the note below and the run's comments.
Note: This movie begins from a save state from the end of regular mode in order to access Hyper Sonic from the beginning of the game.
There is no other way to access it outside of a hack. We normally do not accept movies which begin from a save state.
To download a savestate for this movie, use this link for Gens version 11a or this link for Gens version 11b. Every second encode link leads to the camhacked version. A Sonic video without Sonic! Instead, Knuckles takes the spotlight and collects all the Chaos and Super Emeralds. Each second link or sets of encodes use a camhack, in order to have the camera focus on Knuckles while keeping the sprites in the foreground.
This run is longer than the predecessor movie in movie length due to using Sonic only, but has a shorter in-game time. While visiting Flicky Island, Sonic notices that the Flickies, his small, feathered friends that can travel between parallel worlds, were captured and turned into badniks the robot enemies of Sonic by Dr. Robotnik in his never-ending quest for the Chaos Emeralds.
Seven levels separate Sonic from the final showdown with Robotnik. This time around, the0nlykyd does not collect any Chaos Emeralds and defeats Robotnik in Panic Puppet Zone in record time.
The evil doctor Robotnik has a new plan to take over the world. He has built a new weapon, the Veg-O-Fortress on Mount Mobius and with it, he is transforming all creatures into robots.
Sonic sneaks into the fortress and tries to stop Robotnik. This run aims to complete all levels in the game, which includes the optional intermediate levels, and the now featured Multiball levels. These only appear after collecting all rings on the map, thus those need to be gotten too. Robotnik is at it again, and this time he's set up a Pinball Defense System inside a volcano.
Fortunately, Sonic makes a good pinball and he easily infiltrates the system, recovering most of the chaos emeralds hidden within and making short work of the bosses. In this run, Flip improves his previous movie by Fast bouncing around. This is a run of Sonic the Hedgehog which avoids zipping gaining a large speed boost from being inside terrainunlike the other run of this game.
Therefore, most levels cannot be skipped, and instead have to be traversed using a more normal route, although the author still finds a couple of alternative methods to take shortcuts it is hard to define hard rules to ban all glitches. In this run, the game is completed without collecting the Chaos Emeralds. There are also runs where Knuckles and Tails they take advantage of their own abilities to finish the game in record time.
Sonic bounces around surprisingly fast. However, this doesn't prevent the author from achieving crazy velocities even with such a significant limitation. In this run, the game is completed without collecting any emeralds. This is the ninth publication of this branch, improving on the previous effort by 7. To see a movie of this game that doesn't take advantage of zips, watch the "no zips" run by Aglar. But don't expect the videos where Sonic is visible offscreen to make any more sense than the original ones!
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the game that introduced the Super Dash Attack. The ability, referred to as Spin Dash in later games, has become one of the most beloved features of the series and, indeed, one of the most prominent features of the speedrunning scene as a whole. The authors also control Tails — Sonic's two-tailed foxy buddy — to allow for even faster routes and making shorter work of bosses. Spoiler: Hover over the screenshot. We have a run where Knuckles replaces the main characters and finishes the game in record time, and another run where he goes for the max rings challenge.
Every second link leads to a CamHack encode that keeps Sonic visible all the time. This movie showcases the competition mode of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Here, nitsuja and mmarks aim to complete each level in the fastest time possible. This run is also the fastest anyone has completed each level in Time Attack. Watch this TAS be played back on a real Genesis. In addition to an exceptional soundtrack, the game features a leveling system similar to Final Fantasy 2 NESin that your characters gain stats based on the actions they perform in combat.
The plot places you in the role of a young man whose renowned father turns up missing after seeking to rid the Kingdom of an ultimate evil power.
Desiring to follow in his footsteps, the lad seeks an audience with the King to set out as an adventurer, himself. In doing so, the final boss is slain in just under one hour.
Not bad for a day's work! The kingdom of Zebulos is once again attacked, this time by the neighboring Gedol Empire, whose ruler King Gedol decides that he can kidnap Princess Cherry as Bowser can kidnap Princess Toadstool. The rescuing hero, Sparkster, thinks that espionage is boring. So instead of infiltrating the Gedol empire by stealth, he goes in sword swinging and jetpack blazing, cutting down swaths of whatever poor lizardmen decide to get in his way. Although the control is sluggish compared to the other two games, the author generally keeps the speed and pace fast, and exploits a bunch of tricks that make some bosses fall very, very fast.
